At ZEISS we are offering different microscopy courses covering various fields like light, confocal, and electron microscopy. Our courses are open to a range of research fields and applications and take place onsite. The focus lies on practical sessions with the newest ZEISS technologies.

Basics for Biotech & Medical: April 9 - 10

You will learn the basics for the professional use of light microscopes for a wide range of biotech & pharma applications. Special Focus will be on software for GxP Compliance.

    The course integrates theoretical lectures with practical experiments and hands-on experience at the ZEISS research station. You can bring your own samples. You will be working with the following ZEISS Systems: Axio Imager, Primostar, ZEN Software, ZEISS arivis Software

  • Part 1: Introduction to the Fundamentals of Light Microscopy
    In part one of the course you will learn the basics for the professional use of light microscopes for a wide range of biotech & pharma applications:

    • Introduction to the optics and technology of microscopes
    • Overview of the basics of light microscopy (light, optics, and various microscope classes)
    • Introduction of the various contrast methods (transmitted light, bright field, phase contrast, dark field, DIC) and application according to the experimental design
    • Camera & Documentation

    Part 2: Image Analysis & Software Solutions for GxP Compliance
    In part two of the course, we will focus on Microscopy Software, Image Analysis and solutions for GxP Compliance.

    • Softwaredesign, Configuration of the Micro Tool Box, Camera- and Microscope Settings
    • Understand how to create workflows, acquire digital images, process, and easily measure them.
    • You will learn how to optimize your image processing & acquisition with automated analysis.
    • Introduction to the software solution for GxP compliance: ensure GxP compliance for your images, tables and reports.
       
  • For researchers in biological and medical science as well as laboratory employees in biomedical & pharmaceutical laboratories. No prerequisites necessary, beginner level.

Electron Microscopy & Software Training | June 3 & June 5

    Master the fundamental principles of electron microscopy and comprehend their functionalities. You will be working with the ZEISS GeminiSEM 450.

    Trainer:

    • The course starts with a quick introduction to electron microscopy. Learn about the special features of an field-emission (FE-) SEM and how to optimize imaging conditions for unique contrast based on the double-condenser design.
    • You will receive a theoretical introduction followed by practical hands-on sessions with the ZEISS GeminiSEM 450. The course is very interactive and we can address your individual requests. You can bring your own samples.
    • In addition we will show you the latest software for image correlation and analysis.
       
  • For researchers in materials science as well as lab technicians. Ideal for beginners and advanced users who want to refresh their knowledge.

EDS & EBSD Analytics | June 4

    Trainer:

    • The course will focus on EDS and EBSD analysis in theory and practice.
    • The basics for sample preparation will be covered.
    • You will receive a theoretical introduction followed by practical hands-on sessions on the ZEISS GeminiSEM 450 with EDS and EBSD by Oxford Instruments. You can bring your own samples for EDS. If you want to bring also samples for EBSD, please contact us first.
       
  • For researchers in materials science as well as lab technicians. Ideal for beginners and advanced users who want to refresh their knowledge.

Tissue Clearing Workshop | September 9 - 11

In microscopy, optical clearing emerges as an essential technique to overcome the problem of opacity in biological tissue. Over the course of three days you will practice different techniques of tissue clearing yourself and learn more about the newest advances in this field.

    You will be working with different ZEISS microscopes. Suitable samples will be onsite. You are also welcome to bring your own samples.

    • The course is designed to provide you with the practical knowledge on tissue clearing as well as with use cases. 
    • During Hands-On you will practice tissue clearing yourself. Experts for ECi and Cubic Clearing will support you.
    • You will image your cleared sample on different ZEISS systems and imaging technologies (Lightsheet, Axio Zoom, Lattice SIM).
    • Different experts will share their knowledge in applicative talks and give you a theoretical introduction.
  • Researchers in Life Science. Basic experience in imaging is of advantage.

Your Trainers

Wolf Heusermann

Wolf is a cell biologist with a strong technical background. He did his PhD at the Novartis Institute in Basel in the field of lipid vesicle/exosome research. As part of the Imaging Core Facility of the University of Basel he gained a lot of experience in consulting, evaluation and teaching of light microscopy systems. Since 2021 he is supporting customers in Switzerland as Regional Sales Manager for ZEISS.

Andrija Nikodijevic

Andi finished the technical secondary school in electrical engineering and established perfect skills in programming, EDV and PC computing. He started at ZEISS in 2023 during his studies at the technical university in Vienna. As application specialist for ZEN & image analysis, he is supporting customers in Austria and South Eastern Europe. 

Bernhard Sartory

Bernhard has headed the SEM laboratory at the Materials Center Leoben since 2010. His international experience of more than 25 years includes various programs, contributions to renowned journals and participation in various international conferences in different fields.

Your Trainers

Wolfgang Schwinger

Wolfgang studied Technical Physics at the University in Linz, Austria. In the past he has been working as research associate in the areas nanotechnology & diagnostics and with different electron microscopy companies. Since 2016 he is part of ZEISS and is responsible for sales & business development for electron and X-ray microscopy in Austria / South Eastern Europe. In addition he is sharing his profound knowledge on microscopy at a University Course in Upper Austria.

Peter Weber

Peter finished his education in Optics 20 years ago. Since then he has been part of ZEISS and could gain wide experience in different microscopy techniques and application fields. There is no microscope Peter doesn't know how to work with! As a Regional Sales Manager at ZEISS Austria he is sharing this knowledge with the biggest microscope facilites in Austria.
